Fall Muster at Fort D Historic Site 920 Fort Street, Cape Girardeau, MOLabor Day Weekend, September 5 - 7, 9 am – 3 pm
Take a step back in time and make Fort D your destination during Labor Day Weekend. Visit with local reenactors as they interpret the Civil War in Cape Girardeau. The soldiers will demonstrate cannon and rifle fire, and visitors can get a glimpse of life during the 1860’s inside the stone building. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Fort D is one of the last earthen forts in Missouri to survive. Admission is free.

The Crisp Museum will host “Then & Now: Works by SEMO Alumni & Faculty” from September 4 through October 17.
This exhibition is a celebration of learning, collaboration, and the evolving relationship between teacher and artist. Professors engage with viewers and students alike, discussing techniques and inspiration, while students gain confidence seeing their creations displayed alongside those who have guided them.
**An opening reception will take place on Friday, September 4, from 4-8 p.m.
“Then & Now” will run from Friday, September 4, through Saturday, October 17, at the Crisp Museum on Southeast’s River Campus.

The Cape Riverfront Market takes place each Saturday morning through October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 35 S. Spanish Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau.
Patrons of the farmers’ market can find a wide variety of vendors selling hot breakfast and lunch foods, farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey, flowers and plants, arts and crafts, and natural wellness products, all of which are locally grown, homemade, and handmade. Each week will feature live music, as well.

Mercy Hospital Southeast will hold its next Heartsaver CPR Certification Class on September 5.
Participants will learn infant, child, and adult CPR, how to use an AED, and first aid for choking. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements or for anyone interested in learning these skills. Participants will receive a two-year certification after a skills check-off, and attendees must be at least 8 years of age.
The Heartsaver CPR Class will take place on Saturday, September 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Mercy HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. Registration is required and there is a cost to attend.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host Learn to Fish: Fly Casting 101 on September 5.
Fly fishing can be one of the most peaceful fishing experiences in Missouri. This hands-on program for beginners will feature basic fly casting techniques. No experience is required, and all equipment will be provided. The event is free and open to the public, age 10 and up. Registration is required.
Fly Casting 101 will take place on Saturday, September 5, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Nature Center.

The Harold S. Jones Fine Arts Center will present the 8th Annual Smooth Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 6.
The event will feature The Soul Jazz Coalition, The Jazz Patrol, The Todd Hill Quintet, and SEMO Jazz Faculty.
The Smooth Jazz Festival will take place from 2-10 p.m. at the Cairo Regional Airport in Cairo, Illinois.
The event is free and open to the public.
